Needles and Sharps
Not Accepted, Alternative Options Available
DO NOT place used medical sharps, such as needles, syringes, or lancets, in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. DO NOT place sharps in a waste or garbage cart. These items require special handling.
Place these items in an approved sharps container or a rigid plastic container with a sealed lid and take it to the City's special waste facility, UnderTheSink.
UnderTheSink accepts unwanted chemicals and special waste from households in Douglas and Sarpy Counties. A list of acceptable items and more information can be found at:
Where Else Could It Go?
Talk with your health care provider about sharps disposal sites that may be available to you at no cost, or for a fee.
Some local doctors' offices, hospitals, pharmacies, and health clinics offer special collection services for needles and sharps.
