Omaha Recycling Guide

Facial Tissue

Not Accepted, Alternative Options Available

PC Face Tissue2

DO NOT place facial tissue paper in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.

The tissue should be placed in the garbage, or composted.

Tip: The tissue itself is NOT accepted for recycling, but the empty cardboard box is. Discard the plastic lining, and break apart and flatten the box before placing it in the recycling.

Where Else Could It Go?

Facial tissue and cardboard boxes (with all plastic parts removed) can often be composted for free at home, or through a paid program at an industrial-composting facility, such as Hillside Solutions.

Ways to Reduce or Reuse

Consider investing in reusable, washable fabric handkerchiefs as a more sustainable alternative to single-use paper tissues.

Did You Know

Even if they are clean, facial tissues are made from a low-grade paper fiber that cannot easily be recycled. To prevent contamination of other recyclables, place this item in the garbage.
