Canning Jar Lids

Some Restrictions Apply

M Canning Lids

ACCEPTED: Lids Inside a Larger Container

Place detached metal lids from canning jars inside a larger metal can (like a soup can) that you plan to recycle, and pinch the top closed. Once the metal lid is secured inside the can, place it in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.

M Canning Lids

NOT ACCEPTED: Lids By Themselves, NO Metal Rings

DO NOT place loose canning lids or rings in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.

Because of their small size and shape, single lids often fall through the sorting equipment and may end up going to the landfill. Lids that cannot be pinched inside of a larger metal can should be placed in the garbage.

The metal rings that attach lids to canning jars are made from a different alloy, and cannot easily be recycled through traditional methods. Place metal canning rings in the garbage if they cannot be reused.
